Fuel Filler Neck - Fuel Spitback When Refueling

FUEL SYSTEM - POSSIBLE FUEL SPITBACK WHEN REFUELING - VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 10/1/91 AND 12/31/91 WITH 16 GALLON TANK


FORD: 1992 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1992 SABLE


ISSUE:
Possible fuel spitback from the fuel tank fill pipe may be caused by back pressure in the tank.

ACTION:
Install a plastic tube into the fuel tank at the fill neck. Refer to the following procedure for service details.


1. Loosen the filler pipe and vent hose clamps at the tank.

2. Remove hoses from the tank.

3. Insert the plastic tube (F1DZ-9N277-A) into the fuel tank fill neck, Figure 1.

CAUTION:
ENSURE THAT THE PLASTIC TUBE IS INSERTED COMPLETELY INTO THE FUEL TANK (FLARE SIDE OUT) BEFORE INSTALLING THE FILLER PIPE.





4. Reattach the filler pipe and hoses to the fuel tank. Tighten the clamps to 2.7-3.7 N-m, Figure 1.
