Engine: Service and Repair
1. Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
3. Disconnect underhood lamp electrical connector, then mark position of hood hinges and remove hood.
4. Remove oil dipstick tube, then disconnect alternator to voltage regulator wiring harness.
5. Remove radiator upper sight shield, then cooling fan motor relay attaching bolts, then position relay aside.
6. Remove air cleaner assembly.
7. Disconnect engine cooling fan.
8. Remove fan shroud, then the upper radiator hose.
9. Disconnect transaxle oil cooler tubes, then the heater hoses.
10. Disconnect power steering pump pressure hose, then the A/C compressor electrical connector.
11. Discharge A/C system, then disconnect compressor to condenser line.
12. Remove coolant recovery reservoir.
13. Remove wiring shield and accelerator cable mounting bracket.
14. Disconnect fuel hoses, then the power steering pump pressure and return tube bracket.
15. Disconnect engine control sensor electrical connector.
16. Disconnect vacuum hoses and ground wire assembly.
17. Remove duct assembly, then disconnect throttle control valve cable.
18. Disconnect bulkhead electrical connector, then transaxle pressure switches.
19. Remove transaxle support assembly attaching bolts.
20. Remove transaxle support assembly.
21. Raise and support vehicle.
22. Drain engine oil and remove oil filter, then disconnect exhaust gas oxygen sensor.
23. Remove drive belt, then the crankshaft pulley.
24. Remove drive belt tensioner, then the starter motor.
25. Remove converter housing assembly, then the inlet pipe converter assembly.
26. Remove engine support insulator retaining nuts.
27. Remove converter to flywheel attaching nuts.
28. Disconnect oil level sensor electrical connector.
29. Disconnect lower radiator hose, then remove engine to transaxle attaching bolts.
30. Remove wheel and tire assemblies.
31. Remove water pump pulley attaching bolts.
32. Remove water pump, then the distributor cap and position aside.
33. Remove distributor rotor, then the exhaust manifold bolt lock retaining bolts.
34. Remove thermactor air pump attaching bolts and the pump, if equipped.
35. Disconnect oil pressure sender electrical connector.
36. Install suitable engine lifting equipment.
37. Remove engine assembly.
38. Reverse procedure to install.
