ACCELERATOR CABLE "NOISE" OR "VIBRATION" - 3.8L ENGINE EQUIPPED VEHICLES

ISSUE:
Accelerator cable "noise" or "vibration" may be caused by the accelerator cable contacting the Valve Cover or PCV Valve. The accelerator cable contact results in a "clicking" sound normally heard from the dash of the vehicle. Vibration may also be transmitted through the accelerator pedal under severe conditions.

ACTION:
Install a slit sleeve of foam over the accelerator cable in the area of contact with the valve cover or PCV valve. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

The foam sleeve kit consists of:

^ (1) Foam Sleeve 4.25" (108 mm)

^ (2) Plastic Tie Straps

^ (1) Instruction Sheet # 6480

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Place the 4.25" (108 mm) slit open-cell foam sleeve over the accelerator cable, in the area of contact with the PCV valve and valve cover.

a. The initial edge of the sleeve should be located 215 mm (8.50") down the cable from the dash end fitting.

2. Rotate the foam so that the slit faces away from the valve cover.





3. Place a tie wrap 3/8" (9.53 mm) to 1/2" (12.70 mm) from each end of the sleeve. Refer to Figure 1.
