Removal
1. On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. On all models, disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove four or five steering column shroud attaching screws, then the shroud.
4. On models with tilt steering, remove tilt lever.
5. On 1992 models, remove instrument panel lower steering column cover.
6. On all models, disconnect ignition switch electrical connector Fig. 7.
7. Rotate lock cylinder to RUN position, then remove two ignition switch attaching screws.
8. Disengage ignition switch from actuator pin.
Installation
1. Set ignition lock and switch to their RUN positions, then install ignition switch onto the actuator pin.
2. Install switch attaching screws, moving switch slightly back and forth to align switch mounting holes with column lock housing threaded holes. Torque screws to 50-70 inch lbs.
3. Connect electrical connector and battery ground cable.
4. Check switch for proper function, including START and ACC positions. Ensure steering column locks with switch in LOCK position.
5. Install instrument panel lower steering column cover, trim shrouds and tilt lever.
6. On models equipped with airbag, reactivate airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
