This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to revise the part number.

ISSUE:
A "gurgling" noise may be heard from the fuel pump in the rear of the vehicle after a hot engine restart. The noise may last 10-15 seconds and may be caused by fuel passing through the return line check valve which causes the rubber in it to vibrate.

ACTION:
Install a new check valve. The new check valve has been revised to reduce the vibration that is causing the noise. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Confirm the noise is present by warming the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.

a. Stop the engine and let it cool for 15-20 minutes.

b. Restart the engine and listen for noise coming from the fuel pump/fuel tank area.

c. If noise is heard, proceed to Step 2.

2. Remove the fuel pump following the Service Procedure outlined in the appropriate Taurus/Sable Service Manual, Section 10-01.

3. Position the fuel pump on a clean work surface and remove the return line check valve retaining clamp and rubber return line check valve.

4. Slide the existing retainer clamp on the return line and install the new Check Valve (F3LY-9H318-A) onto the steel return line.

5. Reinstall the fuel pump into the fuel tank following the Service Procedure outlined in the appropriate Taurus/Sable Service Manual, Section 10-01.
