FORD:
1989-95 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1989-95 CONTINENTAL, SABLE

ISSUE:
The power steering system may have a "grunt" and/or "groan" noise. This may be caused by hydraulic fluid movement within the power steering rack.

ACTION:
If a "grunt" and/or "groan" noise exists, compare the noise to another vehicle of the same type. If the noise also exists in the other vehicle it is considered characteristic of the power steering system. If the noise is considered to be excessive, perform the procedures for purging and evacuating air from the power steering system following the procedure outlined in Section 11 of the appropriate Service Manual.

NOTE:
PERFORMANCE AND DURABILITY OF THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM IS NOT AFFECTED BY A "GRUNT" AND/OR "GROAN" NOISE CONDITION.
