Starter Motor: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Disconnect starter cable from starter motor terminal.
4. On vehicles equipped with manual transmission, remove three nuts attaching roll restrictor brace to transmission-side starter studs and remove brace.
5. On all models, remove two bolts attaching starter rear support bracket.
6. Remove retaining nut from rear of starter stud bolt, then remove bracket.
7. Remove three starter mounting nuts or bolts and the starter.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Torquing starter retaining bolts or nuts to 30-40 ft. lbs.
