AIR CONDITIONING - INTERMITTENT LOSS OF COOLING - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 1/22/92
FORD:
1992 TEMPO
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1992 TOPAZ
ISSUE:
Intermittent A/C cooling may be caused by the lack of continuity in the A/C clutch cycling pressure switch. This can result in an inoperative A/C system. This condition may be caused by corrosion in the switch assembly as a result of water wicking down the wires and through the connector attached to the clutch cycling pressure switch.
ACTION:
Install a new clutch cycling pressure switch and apply butyl sealer. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Test the clutch cycling pressure switch for continuity.
2. If the switch does not have continuity, install a new switch (E35Y-19E561-A).
3. Use a small flat brush to apply butyl sealer (C9AZ-19554-B) to the top of the wiring harness connector at the point where the wires enter, Figure 1.
