LINCOLN-MERCURY:

ISSUE:
A loose or missing front light bar ornament may be caused by the assembly fastening method. This occurs because the two-sided tape used to secure the ornament to the front light bar is not thick enough to maintain good adhesion.

ACTION:
Install a new front light bar ornament or reinstall the existing ornament. Refer to the following service procedure for service details.


1. Make sure the light bar is at least room temperature, 65~ F (18~ C).

2. Clean the light bar where the ornament mounts. Use 3M Wax And Grease Remover (3M # 08984) and let dry.

3. If the new ornament (F26Y-13A246-A) has .060" (1.52 mm) thick tape, go to Step 5.

4. If the customer has the old ornament, remove the old tape. Clean the ornament with 3M Wax And Grease Remover (3M # 08984) and let dry. When reinstalling, repeat Steps 5, 6 and 7 three times, resulting in three (3) layers of .030" (.76 mm) tape.

5. Cut four (4) pieces of 3M Scotch Mount Tape (3M # 06377) as follows:

^ Two (2) pieces 2-1/4" long, .030" (.76 mm) thick.

^ Two (2) pieces 1" long, .030" (.76 mm) thick.





6. Apply the two (2) longer pieces to the backside of the ornament. One (1) on each side and parallel to the triangle shaped legs, Figure 1.


7. Apply the two (2) shorter pieces to the backside of the ornament. One (1) on each side and next to the longer pieces. Trim any excess tape that hangs over the edge of the ornament.

NOTE:
THE ORNAMENT ONLY GOES ONE WAY. CHECK BEFORE REMOVING THE PROTECTIVE COATING.

8. Remove the protective coating from the tape.

a. Press the ornament firmly to the light bar with hand pressure.

b. Hold in place for about one (1) minute.
