AIR CONDITIONING - INSUFFICIENT COOLING - LOSS OF REFRIGERANT CHARGE FROM CHAFED DISCHARGE HOSE - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 7/19/93

FORD:
1992-93 TEMPO

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1992-93 TOPAZ

ISSUE:
A lack of A/C cooling may be caused by a chafed through discharge hose. The A/C discharge hose is routed underneath the air bag center crash sensor which is mounted at the center of the top radiator support. During engine roll, the A/C discharge may be cut or chafed through resulting in loss of refrigerant charge.

ACTION:
Install a new A/C bracket and reposition the A/C discharge hose. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Install an A/C bracket (F43Z-19D738-A) underneath the air bag center crash sensor as shown in Figure 1.

2. Reposition the A/C discharge hose and muffler assembly at a slight angle to the upper radiator support, Figure 1.

3. Route the A/C discharge hose past the newly installed bracket.
