TRANSAXLE - ATX - 3.0L - HARSH OR DELAYED SHIFTS AT LIGHT OR PART THROTTLE


FORD: 1992 TEMPO

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1992 TOPAZ


ISSUE: Harsh or delayed shifts may occur at light or part throttle because a misrouted heater hose may interfere with the transaxle TV cable linkage at the TV lever. This condition gives an incorrect throttle valve position reading to the shifting transmission.

ACTION: Inspect the heater hose for proper routing and, if necessary, reroute it. Refer to the following service procedure.

2. If misrouted, correct the routing by placing the heater hose over the accelerator cable as shown in Figure 2.


3. Inspect the TV cable linkage for proper function and freedom from obstruction after repair. Refer to the 1992 Tempo/Topaz Service Manual, Section 10-02, for service details.
