PAINT - CHIPS ON ROOF PANEL AT UPPER REAR OF DOOR OPENING - TWO DOOR VEHICLES
FORD: 1992-93 TEMPO
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1992-93 TOPAZ
ISSUE:
Paint chips may occur on the roof panel next to the upper rear corner of the doors, Figure 1. This is caused by the door contacting the roof when the door is slammed very hard.
ACTION:
Install a new design shed lip weatherstrip which has a plug in the end to prevent door-to-roof contact. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Repair paint damage as required.
2. Remove the existing shed lip weatherstrip.
3. Make sure that the end of the weatherstrip with the plug is toward the rear.
4. Install the weatherstrip starting at the rear and push firmly on the flange.
