Fuel Pump: Description and Operation

Fuel Pump:

PURPOSE
Provides high pressure fuel in the correct volume to the electronic fuel injection system.

LOCATION
Inside fuel tank with fuel sender assembly. The tank has an internal pump cavity in which the fuel sender/pump assembly is mounted.

OPERATION
When the ignition is switched to the START position, it energizes the power relay, supplying power to the fuel pump relay and Electronic Control Assembly (ECA). While cranking, the fuel pump circuit ground is provided at the fuel pump relay. After engine start, the pump circuit is grounded through the Vane Air Flow (VAF) meter fuel pump switch.
