(B) - Brake Pedal Symptoms After Cold Start

BRAKE PEDAL "HIGH PEDAL EFFORTS"
OR "TOO MUCH PEDAL TRAVEL" AFTER COLD
START

ISSUE:

Complaints of brake pedal "high pedal efforts" or "too much pedal travel" on the first few brake applications after cold start-up, may be caused by a lower coefficient of brake lining friction when the brake linings are cold.

ACTION:

New brake linings are now available that should improve pedal feel and reduce pedal efforts immediately after cold start-up. However, the wear life of the new linings may be lower depending on driving habits. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Perform brake system diagnosis and testing procedures. Refer to the appropriate year Escort/Tracer Service Manual, Section 06-00:

^ Pedal Goes Too Far

^ Poor Braking

2. If, after performing diagnosis and testing, no concern is found, replace the front disc brake linings using the new level Brake Lining Service Kit. Refer to the appropriate year Escort/Tracer Service Manual, Section 06-03, for the proper repair procedure.
