WINDSHIELD WIPERS - WIPERS STREAK - CLEAN UNEVENLY

ISSUE:
The windshield wipers may leave streaks on the windshield while operating. This may be caused by corrosion buildup on the pivot bearing which reduces pressure on the blade to the glass.

ACTION:
Clean and/or replace the windshield wiper arm and blade. The revised wiper arm has a new material which will reduce corrosion buildup on the wiper arm pivot bearing. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. If the blades do not clean properly, clean both the windshield and wiper blades using undiluted windshield washer solvent. Rinse thoroughly with clear water.

2. If the windshield wipers do not clean the windshield any better or unevenly after cleaning, replace both the wiper arm and wiper blade on both sides of the vehicle.

3. Remove the windshield wiper arm outer cover and remove the nut from the wiper arm.

4. Pull the windshield wiper arm off of the pivot shaft.

5. Install the new arm by pushing it down over the pivot shaft.

6. Install the nut and torque to 7-10 N.m (62-88 lb-in) and reinstall the windshield wiper arm cover.

7. Install the new wiper blade onto the wiper arm. Position the windshield wiper blade and move it back and forth while pressing the windshield wiper blade onto the windshield wiper arm.
