BODY - FRONT VALANCE PANEL MISSING OR LOOSE - VEHICLES WITH 1.9L ENGINES AND ATX TRANSAXLES AND ALL 1.8L GT MODELS

FORD:
1991-94 ESCORT

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1991-94 TRACER

ISSUE:
Front valance panels on some vehicles may become loose or fall off in service. This may be caused by the production attachment bolts "pulling-through" the valance panel.

ACTION:
Use new, longer bolts with a larger free-spinning washer to attach the front valance panel. The improved bolts will not pull through the panel. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Remove the three (3) existing front valance panel attaching bolts, and remove the valance panel, Figure 1.

2. Inspect the valance panel for damage at the attaching holes. Replace the valance panel (F1CZ-17626-A), if required.

3. Line up the valance panel to body attaching holes, and install three new bolts (FOCZ-10N768-A).

4. Tighten the attaching bolts to 6.6-9.0 N-m (58-79 lb.in.).
