Disassembly

DISASSEMBLE
1. Mount transaxle into bench mounting fixture tool No. T57L-500-B, or equivalent.
2. Remove drain plug and drain any remaining fluid from transaxle, then shift transaxle to first or second gear.

3. Remove bolts securing rear cover to transaxle case. Tap cover with a soft mallet to loosen gasket seal, then remove rear cover.
4. Use input shaft holder tool No. T88C-7025-GH, or equivalent, to lock input shaft, then uncrimp tabs and remove locknuts.

Input Reverse Synchronizer Gear Removal:

5. Remove input synchronizer gear, then the main reverse synchronizer gear.
6. Use pin punch to drive out roll pin and remove shift fork, synchronizer ring and clutch hub assembly.
7. Remove synchronizer ring, input fifth gear and gear sleeve.

Fifth Gear Lock Bolts:

8. Remove input bearing spacer, main fifth gear, lock bolts, guide bolt, springs, and ball.
9. Remove back-up lamp switch.
10. Tap transaxle case lightly with a soft mallet to loosen gasket seal, then remove the transaxle case and magnet.
11. Remove reverse idler shaft and reverse idler gear and bushing.

Lockbolt Removal From Reverse Idler Gate:

12. Remove lock bolt from gate.
13. Remove clip and shift rod (fifth and reverse), then the gate.

Crank Lever Shaft Pin Removal:

14. Remove pin, then the crank lever shaft and crank lever assembly.
15. Align ends of interlock sleeve and control lever, then turn shift rod counterclockwise and raise both shift forks and shift clutch hub sleeves.
16. On 93-96 models, lift control lever and remove steel ball.
17. On all models, remove shift fork and shift rod assembly, then the input shaft gear assembly.
18. Remove main shaft gear assembly, differential, input shaft bearing cups, diaphragm spring, and adjustment shims.
19. Remove input shaft oil seal using puller tool No. T58L-101-B and slide hammer tool No. T50T-100-A, or equivalents.
20. Remove main shaft bearing cups, adjustment shims, diaphragm spring, and funnel.
21. Remove guide plate and spacer, change arm, selector pip, change rod, and boot.

Selector Spring, Reverse Gate, And Selector Removal:

22. Remove spring, reverse gate and selector.
23. Remove change arm oil seal using collet tool No. D80L-100-Q, actuator pin tool No. D80L-100-G, and slide hammer tool No. D80L-100-D, or equivalents.
24. Remove breather cover and breather, then the speedometer driven gear assembly.
25. Remove differential bearing cups using bearing replacement tool No. T86P-70043-A, disc brake piston removal tool No. T73L-2196-A, and slide hammer tool No. T50T-100-A, or equivalents.
26. Remove roll pin, then the reverse lever shaft and reverse lever.
27. Remove neutral switch and gasket, then the differential seals using bearing cup puller tool No. T77F-1102-A and impact slide hammer tool No. T50T-100-A, or equivalents.
