^ COOLING SYSTEM - DRAIN PROCEDURE - HEADLESS PIPE PLUG IS BEING ELIMINATED - 1.9L ENGINES

FORD:
1991-94 ESCORT

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1991-94 TRACER

ISSUE:
In some cases attempts have been made to drain engine coolant from the engine block using the headless plug located in the center of the block at the front of the vehicle.

ACTION:
The headless pipe plug is being eliminated on a running change on the 1994 engine blocks. See Figure 1. There is no need to use this plug during the draining, filling and bleeding procedures. All engine coolant is drained through the radiator draincock.

COOLANT SYSTEM, DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING

With the engine off and sufficiently cool, remove the radiator cap, open the radiator draincock and allow the coolant to drain. A 3/8" (9.5 mm) hose may be attached to the radiator draincock to direct coolant into a suitable container. Refer to the Escort/Tracer Service Manual, Section 03-03 for filling and bleeding procedures.
