Windows: Description and Operation

Operation From the Master Window Control Switch

With the Ignition Switch in RUN, voltage is present at the Master Window Control Switch through the POWER WINDOWS Fuse.

Moving the Left Front Switch portion of the Master Window Control Switch to the DOWN position causes current to flow through the POWER WINDOWS Fuse, one set of Left Front Switch contacts, circuit 372 (R/DG), the Left Front Window Motor, circuit 371 (R/BK), and a second set of Left Front Switch contacts to ground. The Left Front Window Motor runs and the window glass lowers.

Moving the switch to the UP position causes current to flow through the Left Front Window Motor in the opposite direction; the Motor runs in the opposite direction and the window glass rises.

When the Left Front Switch is in the NEUTRAL position, both Motor wires are grounded through the Master Window Control Switch.

Operation from the Remote Window Switches

Operation of a Power Window from the Right Front, Left Rear and Right Rear Window Switches is similar to operation from the Master Control Switch; however, the remote window switches receive power through a Lockout Switch located in the Master Window Control Switch. If the Lockout Switch is in the OFF position, the remote Switches do not receive power and cannot be used to operate the Power Windows. The Power Windows can, however, be operated from the Master Window Control Switch regardless of Lockout Switch position.
