Front Wiper System

With the Ignition Switch in RUN, voltage is present at the Windshield Wiper Motor, the Interval Governor and the Interval Wiper/Washer Switch through the WIPER Fuse.

Wiper Operation

Two variations of Interval Wipers are used: on allows the driver to adjust the interval rate. The fixed interval rate Interval Wiper/Washer Switch does not contain an Interval Adjust Rheostat.

Both variations have lo and hi speed continuous operation, as well as a one-wipe function.

Using input from the Interval Wiper/Washer Switch, the Interval Governor controls Windshield Wiper Motor operation.

Lo/Hi

With the Interval Wiper/Washer Switch in Lo, pin F of the Interval Governor is grounded. The Governor then applies voltage at pin C to operate the Windshield Wiper Motor at lo speed. With the Interval Wiper/Washer Switch in Hi, pin D of the Interval Governor is grounded and the Governor applies voltage at pin A to operate the Windshield Wiper Motor at hi speed.

When the Wiper Switch is moved to OFF, the Interval Governor cuts power to the Windshield Wiper Motor. The Motor continues to run since voltage is available through its own RUN contacts. When the wiper arms reach the end of their stokes, the RUN contacts open and the Windshield Wiper Motor stops.

Intermittent

With the Interval Wiper/Washer Switch in Interval, pin E of the Interval Governor is grounded. The Governor then measures the resistance between pin L and ground to determine interval rate. The Interval Governor then applies voltage at pin C to operate the Windshield Wiper Motor at slow speed for the proper interval rate.

Washer Operation

Pulling the multi-function lever toward the driver causes the Washer Switch contacts to close. Current flows through the WIPER Fuse, the Washer Switch and the Windshield Washer Pump Motor to ground. The Washer Pump Motor runs. At the same time, voltage is applied to pin J of the Interval Governor. The Interval Governor then runs the Windshield Wiper Motor to clean the windshield.

One-Touch Wiper Operation

Pulling the multi-function lever down and releasing, closes the One-touch Wiper Switch, grounding pin D of the Interval Governor. The Interval Governor then runs the Windshield Wiper Motor to clean the Windshield. The Multi function lever does not have to be held down to operate the Wiper Motor. The Motor will run until the wiper arm reaches the end of its stroke.
