ISSUE:
Vehicles may exhibit intermittent rough idle, "bucking" or "jerking" (while coasting or decelerating) and/or hesitation during vehicle operation with hot or cold engines. These symptoms may be caused by high resistance across the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) connector terminal-to-terminal interface or the wire-to-terminal crimp. The resistance causes a voltage drop across the connector which alters the MAF signal, affecting performance.
ACTION:
Perform normal inspection and diagnosis. Refer to the Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis Service Manual (PC/ED), Section 2A. If the root cause cannot be determined, (1) cut off the MAF connector and replace it with a new MAF Connector Service Kit, featuring an improved connector and pigtail assembly. (2) Strain-relieve the connector by tie strapping the harness to the MAF casting. Refer to instruction sheet I.S. 6525 (included with each kit) for service details.
Refer to Figures 1 and 2.
