FORD:
1993 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1993 SABLE

ISSUE:
A "squeak" or "growl" noise may come from the front end accessory drive (FEAD) system. The noise is most noticeable in the area of the idler pulley assembly. It is caused by water ingestion in the idler pulley bearing.

ACTION:
Install a revised idler pulley assembly with a non-vented seal to prevent bearing water ingestion. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Remove the idler pulley. Refer to the 1993 Taurus/Sable Service Manual, Section 03-05, for the removal procedure.

2. Rotate (spin) the pulley. If a "squeak"/"growl" is present or roughness is felt in the bearing, the idler pulley assembly must be replaced.

3. Discard the existing idler pulley assembly. Install revised idler pulley assembly (F4DZ-6C348-B). Refer to the 1993 Taurus/Sable Service Manual, Section 03-05, for the installation procedure.
