Fuel Injector: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove fuel tank cap and release pressure.
2. Remove upper intake manifold.
3. Remove spring lock coupling.
4. Disconnect fuel supply and return line.
5. Remove vacuum line from fuel pressure regulator.
6. Disconnect fuel injector wiring harness.
7. Carefully remove connectors from individual injectors.
8. Remove two bolts securing injector manifold assembly to the intake manifold and remove fuel injector manifold assembly.
9. Grasping injector's body, pull up while gently rocking injector from side to side.
10. Inspect injector "plastic hat" (covering injector pintle) and washer for signs of deterioration. Replace as needed.
Fuel Injector:
INSTALLATION
1. Replace and lubricate the two injector O-rings on each injector with clean engine oil.
2. Install injector(s). Use a light, twisting, pushing motion to install injector(s).
3. Carefully seat fuel injector manifold assembly on four injectors. Secure manifold with two attaching bolts. Tighten to 20-30 Nm (15-22 lb ft).
4. Connect vacuum line to fuel pressure regulator.
5. Connect fuel injector wiring harness.
6. Connect fuel supply and fuel return lines.
7. Install spring lock couplings.
8. Check entire assembly for proper alignment and seating.
9. Install upper intake manifold.
10. Cycle ignition switch ON/OFF several times to pressurize fuel system, then check for leaks.
