This TSB is being republished in its entirety to include the 1994 models and to include Figure 1.
ISSUE:
The ATX transaxle may go into a "neutral condition" after reaching operating temperature with the transmission range selector lever in the drive position. This condition may be caused by worn intermediate clutch teflon seals that are located on the pump support (Figure 1). The early seal wear is due to a rough surface finish on the seal ring groove side walls of the pump support.
ACTION:
If this condition exists, inspect the teflon seals on the pump support for wear. If worn intermediate clutch seals are found, replace the pump assembly and install new intermediate clutch teflon seals. Refer to the 1994 Tempo/Topaz Service Manual, Section 07-01, for service procedures.
