Reason For Recall

On some of these cars, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system of the engine may freeze when operated for extended periods at highway cruising speeds in extremely low ambient temperatures (below -20° C). A frozen PCV system may result in buildup of pressure in the crankcase, and engine oil could be forced out of the crankcase through the dipstick tube or past some other gasket or seal of the engine. If oil leaks onto the exhaust manifold, a fire could result. Alternatively, internal damage to the engine due to inadequate lubrication could occur.

Service Action

To correct this condition, dealers are to modify the PCV system to prevent PCV freeze-up.
