Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair
NOTE: The front wheel bearings are cartridge design and are pre-greased, sealed and require no maintenance. The bearings are preset and cannot be adjusted.1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
2. Remove brake caliper and rotor.
3. Disconnect lower control arm and tie rod from knuckle (leave strut attached).
4. Loosen two strut top mount to apron attaching nuts.
5. Using suitable tools, remove hub bearing and knuckle assembly by pushing out constant velocity joint outer shaft until it is free of assembly.
6. Install hub removal tool Nos. D80L-1002-L and D80L-625-1, or equivalents, onto knuckle bosses and remove hub.
7. Remove snap ring retaining bearing in knuckle assembly. Discard snap ring.
8. Using a suitable press and bearing remover tool Nos. T83P-1104-AH3 and T83P-1104-AH2, or equivalents, press bearing from knuckle assembly. Discard bearing.
9. Remove halfshaft assembly. Place shaft into a suitable vise and remove bearing dust shield. Discard dust shield.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
