Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
1. On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag system.2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove horn pad retaining screws from rear of wheel, then pad assembly.
4. On airbag equipped vehicles, remove airbag module assembly retaining screws, then airbag module.
5. Lift airbag module from wheel, then disconnect clockspring to module connector.
6. Remove energy absorbing foam from steering wheel assembly.
7. Disconnect horn pad wiring connector.
8. Loosen steering wheel attaching bolt four to six turns. Do not remove bolt.
9. On airbag equipped vehicles, remove bolt completely to remove vibration damper, then reinstall bolt loosely on shaft.
10. Position steering wheel puller (Tool No. T67L-3600-A) or equivalent on steering wheel.
11. Tighten bolt on removal tool until steering wheel is loose on shaft.
12. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque steering wheel retaining bolt to 23-33 ft lb.
b. Torque airbag retaining bolts to 35-53 in lb.
13. On models equipped with airbag, rearm airbag system.
