ISSUE:
A "ticking" or "clanging" noise may be heard emitting from the front crankshaft area on some vehicles with a 2.3L engine. This may be caused by a loose center hub of the vibration damper pulley.

ACTION:
Replace the vibration damper pulley with a revised Vibration Damper Pulley Kit. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect battery negative cable.

2. Release tension on belt tensioner and remove belt from idler pulley.

3. Remove two (2) bolts from the right isolator.

4. Raise and support the vehicle.

5. Remove bolt for accumulator-to-compressor A/C line support bracket, then position A/C line toward rear of engine compartment.

6. Position safety stands under transmission and engine, use block of wood to protect oil and transmission pans.

7. Remove right side bushing bracket and mounting bracket for stabilizer.

8. Remove front isolator through-bolts and lower retaining nuts.

9. Remove rear isolator through-bolts.

10. Remove right isolator lower retaining nut, then carefully lower drivetrain.

11. Remove vibration damper retaining bolt and vibration damper. If necessary, use Bearing Puller T77F-4220-B. It may be necessary to reposition drivetrain to the left of the engine to provide clearance for the damper.

12. Reverse procedure for installation.

NOTE:
THE BOLT AND WASHER INCLUDED IN THE VIBRATION DAMPER PULLEY KIT MUST BE USED WITH A TORQUE SPECIFICATION OF 180 +/- 13.5 N.m (133 +/- 10 LB-FT) WHEN SECURING THE REVISED PULLEY TO THE CRANKSHAFT. DO NOT REUSE THE ORIGINAL BOLT AND WASHER.

The Vibration Damper Pulley Kit (F6PZ-6312-AA) includes the following:

^ One (1) Crankshaft Pulley Assembly

^ One (1) Flatwasher - 14x47.5x6.35 mm

^ One (1) Hex Flange Bolt - M14x1.5x44.7 mm

^ One (1) Instruction Sheet (I.S. 7270A)
