Cooling System: Description and Operation

The electric cooling fan draws air through radiator to dissipate heat absorbed by engine coolant. The fan will operate when coolant has reached a specific temperature.

A coolant temperature switch matches fan operation to coolant heat load. At 212°F, the switch will open and begin fan operation. When coolant temperature drops below 199°F, the switch will close, stopping fan operation. On models with air conditioning, the fan operates continuously while A/C clutch is engaged.
