Shift Linkage: Adjustments

ADJUST
1. Position gear selector lever in Neutral position, then remove spring clip and pin attaching shift cable trunnion to transaxle shift lever.
2. Rotate transaxle shift lever counterclockwise to park position.
3. Position lever between ends of trunnion while rotating lever clockwise two detents to neutral position.
4. If holes in shift lever align with holes in trunnion. cable is properly adjusted. If holes do not align, continue procedure.
5. Remove console shift quadrant, then loosen shift cable adjuster nuts.
6. Position lever in Park position and inspect position of detent spring roller.
7. If spring roller is not centered in park detent, proceed as follows:
a. Loosen retaining screws and center spring in park detent.
b. Position quadrant and install retaining screws, then position lever in Neutral position.
c. Thread adjuster nuts up or down cable until holes in shift lever and trunnion are aligned.
8. Torque adjuster nut to 71-97 in lbs.
9. Check alignment of cable and install shift lever to shift cable attaching pin and retaining clip.

Adjusting Shift Control Cable:






10. Press in on shift interlock button and carefully push lever forward while an assistant observes. Note shift lever movement.
11. If forward movement of shift lever (A), and rearward movement of gear selector lever (B) are not equal, turn adjuster nuts until they become equal, as follows:
a. If A is greater, loosen locknut B and tighten locknut A.
b. If B is greater, loosen locknut A and tighten locknut B.
12. Torque adjuster nut to 71-97 in lbs.

NOTE: Make sure linkage adjustment has not affected operation of neutral safety switch. With parking brake and service brakes applied, try to start engine in each gearshift position. The engine must crank only in neutral and park positions. If engine cranks in any of the other gear selector lever positions, check linkage adjustment and neutral safety switch operation.

13. Position console and install retaining screws.
