Some outputs/switches may need to be driven in order to be checked i.e. fuel injectors and idle air controllers). GO to Z40 for the Intermittent Road Test Procedure to check outputs that are not controlled in the Output Test Mode. Z40

- Key Off.

- Connect Scan tool to DLC.

- Select the PIDs/circuits to monitor based on the information sent from the Pinpoint Test or Intermittent Symptom Charts at the end of this pinpoint test. Intermittent Symptom Charts

- Go to the area of the suspected wiring or component fault.

- Record any continuous codes before proceeding to the next step. A DTC P1000 will be generated when the PCM is disconnected. Caution must be used for the next steps. Cooling fans or fuel pump may turn on.

- Disconnect PCM and install a breakout box.

- Connect a voltmeter:
- Red lead to output control circuit.
- Black lead to battery ground.

If using the NGS, go to the voltmeter and link up to the PID display. Select the PIDs from the previous steps and record as necessary.

- Key On, Engine Off.

- Enter Output Test Mode. Output Test Mode

- Turn the output on. Observe the volt reading and PID display.

- While outputs are on, lightly tap on component and look for the voltage change.

- Did the voltage remain steady and less than 1 volt?

Yes -- Unable to verify fault, GO to Z21. Z21

No -- Fault area is identified. If fault occurred while tapping on component. REPLACE part and VERIFY repair, If unable to verify. REINSTALL original part and GO to Z21. Z21
