Scan Tool Hookup
NOTE: It may be possible to have two Data Link Connectors (DLCs). One is under the instrument panel, the other is inside the engine compartment. Use the one located under the instrument panel for On Board Diagnostic II (OBD II) vehicles.The Scan tool must be connected to the DLC for communication between the vehicle computers and the scan tool. If the New Generation Star (NGS) is used to communicate with the vehicle, an OBD II adapter cable must be connected to the tool. Refer to the NGS owners manual or manufacturers manual for specific information.
New Generation Star
- Key Off
- Verify that the proper memory (EPROM) card is inserted in the NGS.
- Connect 16 Pin OBD II DLC cable adapter to the NGS.
- Connect NGS DLC cable adapter securely into the vehicle DLC.
- Connect the NGS power supply cable to the vehicle power supply through cigarette lighter or at the vehicle battery with alligator clip adapter.
- Turn ignition key to the "On" position or start vehicle if necessary. The NGS is ready to communicate with vehicle computers.
- Follow instructions on the tool or in the diagnostic manual.
- To disconnect tool, turn ignition key to the "Off" position and disconnect scan tool from the DLC and power supply.
