No-Load Test
No Load Test:
1. Connect test equipment as shown. Ensure current is not flowing through ammeter. Ensure starter is securely mounted in vise.
2. Disconnect starter from battery, then reduce resistance of rheostat until voltmeter indicates reading obtained while starter was running.
3. Ammeter should indicate starter no load current draw.
4. If current exceeds specifications, check for rubbing armature, bent starter shaft, binding starter bearings, or electrical shorts in armature or starter brush assembly.
