Any or all of the listed concerns on a 1991 or 1992 AXODE equipped vehicle may be due to a poor connection at the manual lever position (MLP) sensor. A second design connector was used for the 1993 models. The 1991 and '92 first design MLP sensor is physically incompatible with the second design 1993 connector (figure one).




Ford has made available, a retrofit kit that will allow the 1993 MLP sensor to be used on 1991 and '92 vehicles. Included in the kit is the second design MLP sensor, second design connector, additional connector pieces and instructions (figure two).

The kit part number is F2DZ-7A247-A.
