Case Breakage at Rear Planet Support Snap-ring

It is important to note that the proper installation of the snap-ring that holds the rear planetary support to the case is critical. If misaligned, case damage can occur either by a loose fitting snap-ring or lug breakage. The proper assembly procedure is to ensure that the gap (open end) of the snap-ring be positioned at the six o'clock location (over the rear lube passage, figure 1). This will ensure that the axial thrust load is distributed evenly among the case spline teeth.
