Attachement III - Technical Instructions
Speed Control Cable ModificationCable Modification
1. Remove speed control cable retaining screw from accelerator bracket. Refer to Figure 1.
2. Detach the speed control cable from the throttle body nail head. See Figure 1.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the shop air that will be used is dry. Do not proceed with this recall until you have dry shop air.
3. Verify shop's air system is dry by performing the following:
^ Blow shop air against a smooth, flat and dry surface (side of tool box or steel bench top). If you see droplets of water accumulating or beading up and blowing across the surface, your shop air is too damp.
NOTE:
Failure to blow the cable out may leave water in the cable which will not evaporate.
4. Using a standard air nozzle, "blow-out any accumulated water from the speed control cable by putting the nozzle against the sleeve end of the cable and applying pressurized air for 30 seconds. This will force any accumulated water back to the servo end where it will safely drain. See Figure 2.
5. Slip the speed control cable boot over the end of the cable and locate it on the shoulder behind the slotted terminal. See Figure 3.
6. Secure the boot to the cable shoulder by cinching a tie strap around the boot end in the location shown in Figure 4. If available, use a "strap gun" to ensure proper retention and removal of excess strap.
7. Reinstall the speed control cable to the throttle body nail head. Reattach and tighten the speed control cable retaining screw to the accelerator bracket.
8. Manually actuate the throttle linkage to ensure free movement of the linkage. If any interference or binding is noted, correct as necessary.
