Refrigerant Oil Addition
NOTE: A new service replacement compressor contains 8 oz of refrigerant oil.
1. Drain and measure oil from old compressor.
2. Drain oil from new compressor into clean measuring device.
a. If 3-5 oz were drained from old compressor, install equal amount of new oil to new compressor.
b. If more than 5 oz were drained from old compressor, install 5 oz of new oil in new compressor.
c. If less then 3 oz was removed from old compressor, install 3 oz in new compressor.
3. When other air conditioning system components are replaced, add the following quantities of refrigerant oil:
a. Accumulator: same amount drained from old accumulator plus 2 oz.
b. Evaporator core: 3 oz.
c. Condenser: 1 oz.
4. Replacement of other components such as valves or hoses does not require any additional refrigerant oil. However, if a hose bursts with a fully charged system, an additional 2 oz is recommended, and accumulator should be replaced.
