Air Cleaner Housing: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Remove PCV closure hose from provision on the air cleaner outlet tube.

2. Loosen air cleaner outlet tube retaining clamp at throttle body. Remove air cleaner outlet tube from throttle body.

3. Disconnect MAF sensor electrical connector.

4. Disconnect Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.

5. Remove air cleaner assembly retaining screw.

6. Lift engine air cleaner up, reach behind battery, press release tab on air cleaner intake tube and remove unit as an assembly.

7. Unlatch air cleaner cover retaining clips. Remove cover by slightly lifting up and away from air cleaner locating holes. Remove air filter element.

Inspection

Inspect inside surfaces of cover for traces of dirt leakage past element as a result of damaged element seals or incorrect element usage. Place a light source on the clean side of the filter element and look for damage. Replace filter if any holes are detected.

INSTALLATION

1. While aligning air cleaner position locators into the rubber bracket grommets, install air cleaner intake tube from fender well into engine air cleaner tray.

2. Install air cleaner assembly retaining screw. Ensure the air cleaner mounting grommet is installed with metal flange side up. Tighten to 2.3 Nm (20 lb in).

3. Connect IAT sensor electrical connector.

4. Connect MAF sensor electrical connection.

5. Install air cleaner outlet tube to throttle body. Tighten clamp to 2.7-4.0 Nm (24-35 lb in).

6. Install PCV closure hose to the air cleaner outlet tube provision.

7. Start engine and check for vacuum leaks at both ends of air cleaner outlet tube.
