1994-95 COUGAR
ISSUE:
The Outside Temperature Display may intermittently indicate -40~F. This is caused by corroded electrical terminals in connector C228 (located in right side cowl trim panel). The corrosion is due to a water leak caused by insufficient body sealing in the right side A-pillar/cowl area.
ACTION:
Refer to the following procedure for service details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Gain access to connector C228 by removing the passenger side cowl trim panel (see Figure 1 for exact connector location).
2. Inspect connector terminals for continuity/corrosion. If corrosion is present, seal the water leak (Steps 3 through 5) before replacing the terminals.
3. Remove the passenger side fender using procedure outlined in the 1994-95 Thunderbird/Cougar Service Manual, Section 01-02.
4. Inspect A-pillar/cowl area for gaps in the body sealer (Figure 2), and seal using body sealer. Verify seal by spraying the A-pillar/cowl area with water and examining the kick panel area for water seepage.
6. Once the water leak is sealed reinstall fender.
6. Replace corroded terminals. (Terminals can be found in the Ford Electrical Terminal Repair Kit outlined in TSB 93-10-5).
7. Verify electrical repair and reinstall kick panel.
