ISSUE:
The rear planet support has a select fit beveled retaining ring. The end of the retaining ring distinguishes the difference between the five (5) selections.
ACTION:
If disassembly of the transaxle is necessary, inspect for notches on the beveled retaining ring (Figure 1). If notches are present, use retaining ring pliers (T95P-77001-AH) to remove and install the beveled retaining ring. It notches are not present, use the following Service Procedure to remove and replace the beveled retaining ring.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the retaining ring carefully using a screwdriver.
2. Identify the style (Figure 1) and record the select fit thickness of the beveled retaining ring.
3. Discard the original beveled retaining ring.
4. Inspect transaxle case (-7005-) and rear planetary support (-7A130-) for possible damage caused by removing the retaining ring with a screwdriver.
ASSEMBLY
1. Obtain a new service part beveled retaining ring, with notches (Figure 2), which has the same thickness as the original beveled retaining ring.
2. Install the beveled retaining ring using the retaining ring pliers (T95P-77001-AH).
3. Perform end clearance check for the planetary support. If not within specification, replace the select fit beveled retaining ring to obtain proper clearance.
NOTE:
END CLEARANCE FOR THE BEVELED RETAINING RING MUST BE PERFORMED WHEN REPLACING THE CASE (-7005-), REAR PLANET SUPPORT (-7A130-), OR FINAL DRIVE RING GEAR (-7F343-). IF IT IS NECESSARY TO SELECT A DIFFERENT RETAINING RING FOR THE CORRECT CLEARANCE, IDENTIFY EXISTING SELECT FIT BEVELED RETAINING RING (FIGURE 1).
