Dealers are instructed to hold, do not demonstrate or deliver the affected vehicles until the following service instructions are performed.
SERVICE TO BE PROVIDED
1. A VIN listing of affected vehicles for your dealership is included with this mailgram. You must verify each vehicle with the listing or with OASIS before providing this service.
2. Locate the PCM "tear-tag" to determine the module "catch-word and build-date" code.
Explorers - the tag is located on the bulkhead next to the module main connector.
Taurus/Sable - the tag is located on the rear surface of the driver - side door.
The "catch-word and build-date" tear-tag codes must be exactly as follows:
VEHICLE PCM CATCH-WORD PCM BUILD-DATE CODE
Explorer 4.0L
Federal and Canada "FIG1" "5A04"
Taurus/Sable 3.0L

Taurus/Sable 3.0L
California "SQE0" "5A06 thru 5A11"
Taurus 3.8L Police "Z4Y0" "5A08 thru 5A10"
If the codes match, replace the module. Refer to Section 03-14-14 of the 1995 Taurus/Sable Service Repair Manual or Section 03-14-10 of the 1995 Explorer Service Repair Manual.
If the codes on the tag do not match, perform Step # 4.
