Attachment III - Technical Instructions - Kit DD
Technical InstructionsEngine Cooling Fan Motor Wiring Harness Circuit Protection Modification
Kit DD Designated Vehicles
Vehicles Affected:
1992-1994 3.8L Lincoln Continental
Required Parts:
F43 - Z-14K095-DA
Installation Procedure
1. Open hood. Disconnect battery negative cable.
2. Remove the sight shield from above the radiator and engine cooling fan area.
3. Disconnect existing vehicle wiring harness connector from cooling fan motor harness.
4. Disengage cooling fan motor wire harness retainers from their locations on the shroud.
5. Reposition and secure cooling fan motor harness to mounting pad located on fan shroud to the right of the original location using existing retainer. See Figure 1-DD.
6. Install jumper harness onto fan shroud as shown in Figure 2-DD. Make sure harness is positioned so fuse holder is as far away from retainer as possible. Refer to Figure 2-DD.
7. Position fuse holder in place on radiator upper support sheet metal and mark location of the mounting hole. See Figure 2-DD.
CAUTION
The radiator and a wire harness are located directly below the area to be drilled. Position the wire harness out of the way prior to drilling. Use a drill stop or other device to prevent damage to the radiator.
8. Position the fuse holder out of the way. Then, using a 9/32 inch drill bit, drill one (1) hole at location marked in Step 7.
NOTE:
The fuse holder is to be mounted under the radiator support sheet metal.
9. Using the supplied nut and bolt attach fuse holder to the under side of the radiator support sheet metal. Tighten to 3.5-4.5 N-m (31-41 in-lb). Refer to Figure 3-DD.
CAUTION
Dry fit all of the connectors. Do Not use any conductive lubricant.
10. Connect jumper harness to the cooling fan motor harness and to existing vehicle harness.
11. Secure the vehicle wiring harness to the fan shroud mounting pad located at the 11 o'clock position (if vehicle so equipped) or at the 12 o'clock position, using the existing harness retainer. See Figure 3-DD.
12. Connect battery negative cable.
13. Check engine cooling fan motor for proper operation.
14. Install sight shield.
15. Close hood.
