Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Inspection and Verification

Visual Inspection Chart - Mirrors:

1. Inspect the components of the power rear view mirror system to determine if any of the mechanical or electrical concerns in the Visual Inspection chart apply.

2. Flex the harness and connectors at the control switch and mirrors. Look for obvious signs of opens or shorts.

3. Operate the power mirror switch and determine condition.

4. If inspection reveals an obvious concern that is readily serviced, correct the concern before continuing with Inspection and Verification.

5. If a concern remains after the inspection, use the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 or equivalent connected to the data link connector (DLC) to retrieve continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and to execute Self Test Diagnostics for the driver seat module. If after performing data link diagnostic test, the NGS responds with module no response/not equipped, go to Pinpoint Test A. A - No Communication With Driver Seat Module (DSM)

6. If self test is passed an no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

7. If diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are retrieved, go the Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index

8. If the driver seat module cannot be accessed by the NGS, go to Pinpoint Test A. A - No Communication With Driver Seat Module (DSM)

The Rotunda Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS), 001-00001 or equivalent may also be used to diagnose this system.
