B - DTCs B1952, B1956 & B1964 Drvr Seat Pot Short To B+ Or Open
Pinpoint Test B: DTCs B1952, B1956 And B1964 Driver Seat Potentiometer Short To Battery Or Open CircuitB1 - Rerun Self-Test
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Turn ignition switch OFF. These two steps 'wake up" the driver seat module.
- Open driver side door. This disables delay accessory function.
NOTE: Seat will move a short distance in each direction during self-test.
- Execute self-test.
- Inspect all circuits under seat. Make sure all potentiometers are connected.
- Clear DTCs.
- Rerun self-test.
Is DTC still present?
YES GO to B2.
NO System operating normally.
B2 - Check For Additional DTCs
Are DTCs B1952, B1956 and B1964 all present?
YES GO to B6.
NO GO to B3.
B3 - Test Potentiometer Input
- Back probe potentiometer input circuits at driver seat module connector for voltage based on the following DTCs:
DTC B1952 pin C3-9,ckt 444 (LG/BK)
DTC B1956 pin C3-15, ckt 443 (LG/R)
DTC B1964 pin C3-2, ckt 442 (LG/O)
Is voltage greater than 4.5 volts?
YES GO to B4.
NO REPLACE driver seat module. RETEST system
B4 - Test Potentiometer
- Disconnect connector from potentiometer.
- Disconnect driver seat module connector C3.
- Carefully probe rear up/down potentiometer input circuit 444 (LG/BK) on driver seat module connector for pin C3-9 for voltage.
Is voltage greater than 4.5 volts?
YES SERVICE circuit 444 (LG/BK) for short to 5 volt supply. RETEST system.
NO GO to B5.
B5 - Test Circuit 444 (LG/BK)
- Test for continuity on circuit 444 (LG/BK) from pin C3 9 to center pin on potentiometer connector.
Is there continuity?
YES REPLACE potentiometer. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE circuit 444 (LG/BK) for open circuit. RETEST system.
B6 - Test For Short To Battery
- Back probe rear up/down potentiometer input pin C3-9, circuit 444 (LG/BK) on driver seat module connector for voltage.
Is voltage greater than 5 volts?
YES Disconnect all connectors from driver seat module and potentiometers. GO to B7.
NO SERVICE circuit 447 (O/R) for open circuit. RETEST system.
B7 - Check Circuit 446 (O/W) For Short To B+
- Check pin C3-17, circuit 446 (O/W) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 446 (O/W) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to B8.
B8 - Check Circuit 447 (O/R) For Short To B+
- Check pin C3-5, circuit 447 (O/R) for voltage on driver seat module connector. Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 447 (O/R) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to B9.
B9 - Check Circuit 442 (LG/O) For Short To B+
- Check pin C3-2, circuit 442 (LG/O) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 442 (LG/O) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to B10.
B10 - Check Circuit 443 (LG/R) For Short To B+
- Check pin C3-15, circuit 443 (LG/R) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 443 (LG/R) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to B11.
B11 - Check Circuit 444 (LG/BK) For Short To B+
- Check pin C3-9, circuit 444 (LG/BK) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 444 (LG/BK) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO G0 to B12.
B12 - Check Circuit 449 (BR/PK) For Short To B+
- Check pin C3-16, circuit 449 (BR/PK) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 449 (BR/PK) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to 13.
B13 - Check Circuit 452 (GY/R) For Short To B+
- Check pin C3-14, circuit 452 (GY/R) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 452 (GY/R) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to B14.
B14 - Check Circuit 445 (O/LB) For Short To B+
- Check pin C3-3, circuit 445 (O/LB) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 445 (O/LB) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO Town Car: GO to B15. Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis: REPLACE driver seat module.
B15 - Check Mirror Position Circuit 958 (GY/R) For Short To B+
- Check pin C2-14, circuit 958 (GY/R) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 958 (GY/R) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO G0 to B16.
B16 - Check Mirror Position Circuit 949 (R/W) For Short To B+
- Check pin C2-8, circuit 949 (R/W) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 949 (R/W) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to B17.
B17 - Check Mirror Position Circuit 951 (DB/W) For Short To B+
- Check pin C2-19, circuit 951 (DB/W) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 951 (DB/W) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to B18.
B18 - Check Mirror Position Circuit 954 (DG/W) For Short To B+
- Check pin C2-18, circuit 954 (DG/W) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 954 (DG/W) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to B19.
B19 - Check Mirror Position Circuit 957 (P/W) For Short To B+
- Check pin C2-17, circuit 957 (P/W) for voltage on driver seat module connector.
Is voltage reading B+?
YES SERVICE circuit 957 (P/W) for short to B+. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to B2O.
B20 - Check Mirror Circuits For Short To B+ With Mirror In Circuit - Driver
- Repeat Pinpoint Test steps B16 and B17.
Was B+ voltage read in either repeated test?
YES REPLACE driver outside rear view mirror. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to B21.
B21 - Check Mirror Circuits For Short To B+ With Mirror In Circuit - Passenger
- Repeat Pinpoint Test steps B18 and B19.
Was B+ voltage read in either repeated test?
YES REPLACE passenger outside rear view mirror. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO REPLACE driver seat module. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
