Pinpoint Test K - Memory Seat Does Not Work Properly

NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide a procedure to perform the following pinpoint test without the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) tester 007-00500 or equivalent.

K1 - Test Set LED

- Connect Rotunda New Generation Star Tester 007-00500 or equivalent to data link connector Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Command set LED on.

Does set light illuminate?

YES COMMAND LED off. GO to K2.
NO CHECK fuse 8 (15A). If fuse is good, GO to K10.

K2 - Test Switches

- Note that when the ignition switch is in RUN or ACC or during Delayed Accessory period, the memory 1 and memory 2 switch PIDs will toggle on and off. This is normal and can be avoided by turning the ignition switch OFF and opening any door. If no message is sent within two minutes after the ignition switch is turned OFF, the module will not respond to the tester. Cycle the ignition switch and try again.
- With driver door ajar, turn ignition switch to RUN then OFF
- Request PIDs MEM1_SW, MEM2_SW, and MEMS_ SW.

Is set switch active?

YES SERVICE circuit 270 (BR/O) for short to battery or stuck switch. RETEST system.
NO G0 to K3.

K3 - Test For 1 Switch Condition

- Perform test as in J2.

Is 1 switch active?

YES SERVICE circuit 267 (BR/LG) for short to battery or stuck switch. RETEST system.
NO GO to K4.

K4 - Test For 2 Switch Condition

- Press memory seat SET switch.
- Read PID MEMS_SW.
- Perform test as in J2.

Is 2 switch active?

YES SERVICE circuit 268 (BK/O) for short to battery or stuck switch. RETEST system.
NO GO to K5.

K5 - Test Set Switch

- With driver door ajar, turn ignition switch to RUN, then OFF.
- Press memory seat SET switch.
- Read PID MEMS_SW.

Does PID indicate set switch active?

YES GO to K6.
NO SERVICE circuit 270 (BR/O) for open circuit or damaged switch. RETEST system.

K6 - Test 1 Switch

- Turn ignition switch to RUN, then OFF.
- Read PID MEM1_SW.
- Press memory seat 1 switch.

Does PID indicate 1 switch active?

YES GO to K7.
NO SERVICE circuit 267 (BR/LG) for open circuit or damaged switch. RETEST system.

K7 Test 2 Switch

- Turn ignition switch to RUN, then OFF.
- Read PID MEM2_SW.
- Press memory seat 2 switch.

Does PID indicate 2 switch active?

YES GO to K8.
NO SERVICE circuit 268 (BK/O) for open or damaged switch. RETEST system.

K8 - Test For Memory

- Move seat to desired position.
- Press set button.
- Within 5 seconds, press 1 switch.
- Move seat and mirrors to seconds position.
- Press set button.
- Within 5 seconds, press 2 switch.
- Press 1 switch.
- Press 2 switch.

Does seat recall to set positions?

YES SYSTEM operating normally.

NOTE: If battery or driver seat module has been disconnected, or if LH seat module has been in Diagnostic Test Mode, no memory recall will occur until new positions are saved.
NO GO to K9.

K9 - Test TR Sensor Input

- Connect Rotunda New Generation Star Tester 007-00500 or equivalent to data link connector
- Request PID PK/N_SW.

Does PID indicate PARK or NEUTRAL?

YES REPLACE driver seat module. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE circuit 33 (W/PK) for open circuit. RETEST system.

K10 - Test Driver Seat Module Supply Voltage

- Disconnect connector C2 from driver seat module.
- Test for voltage on driver seat module connector pin C2-12, circuit 296 (W/PK) Town Car or circuit 785 (BK/LG) Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis).

Is voltage reading B+?

YES GO to K11.
NO SERVICE circuit 296 (W/PK) for Town Car, circuit 785 (BK/LG) for Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis. RETEST system.

K11 - Test LED Output

- Using a jumper wire, short driver seat module connector pins C2-12, circuit 296 (W/PK) Town Car or circuit 785 (BK/LG) Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis) to C2-13, circuit 272 (W/O).

Does memory LED illuminate?

YES REPLACE driver seat module. RETEST system.
NO RECONNECT module. GO to K12.

K12 Test Circuit 272 (W/O)

- Disconnect memory set switch.
- Command memory set LED on.
- Read voltage on circuit 272 (W/O) into set switch.

Is voltage reading B+?

YES GO to K13.
NO SERVICE circuit 272 (W/O) RETEST system.

K13 - Test Ground

- Test for continuity to ground on circuit 57 (BK) into set switch.

Is there continuity?

YES REPLACE set switch. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE circuit 57 (BK). RETEST system.
