Alignment: Service and Repair
CAMBER AND CASTERNOTE: Camber and Caster adjustment tools No. T79P-3000-A are required to accurately adjust caster and camber.
Caster & Camber Adjustment:
1. Loosen two nuts on top of adjustment cams.
2. Turn hex cams as required to obtain desired valve.
3. Adjust camber and caster on each wheel as determined by alignment specification.
4. If correct specification cannot be obtained, ensure upper control arm to frame retaining bolts are centered in slots. Loosen and reposition as required. Torque to 101-140 ft lb.
5. After proper settings have been obtained, hold each cam and torque nuts to 107-129 ft lb.
6. Check toe-in and steering wheel spoke position.
TOE
NOTE: Following adjustment of caster and camber, check steering wheel spoke position. If spokes are not in normal position, they can be properly adjusted while toe is being adjusted.
Toe-in Adjustment:
1. Loosen two clamp bolts on each spindle connecting rod sleeve.
2. Adjust toe. If steering wheel spokes are in normal position, lengthen or shorten both rods equally to obtain correct toe.
3. If steering wheel spokes are not correct, make necessary rod adjustments to obtain correct toe and steering wheel alignment.
4. When toe and steering wheel position are both correct, lubricate clamp, bolts and nuts. Torque clamp bolts on both connecting rod sleeves to 20-22 ft lb.
Sleeve Position:
5. Sleeve position should not be changed when clamp bolts are tightened for proper clamp bolt orientation.
