CALIBRATION:
6-18F-R05, 6-18H-R05, 6-18I-R05, 6-18M-R05, 6-18N-R05, 6-18H-M05

WARNING:
THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.

ISSUE:
A delayed 1-2 transmission shift may occur on some vehicles. This may be due to the engine calibration 1-2 shift speeds being set high.

ACTION:
Use the following Service Procedure to determine if a new Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with a revised calibration is required.

NOTE:
DEALERS WITH SERVICE BAY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM (SBDS) ARE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN REGIONAL APPROVAL WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE PCM.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Perform the diagnostic procedure in the 1996 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Car/Truck Service Manual. Service as required.





2. Reprogram the PCM by following the SBDS reprogramming tool, January, 1996 CD-ROM or later. If SBDS is not available, replace the PCM. Dealers with SBDS are required to reprogram the PCM with the appropriate calibration per the Application Chart. Only non-SBDS dealers are permitted to replace the PCM. Refer to the Application Chart for correct calibration or part number.





Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
