GLASS - RIGHT FRONT DOOR - HIGH ROLL UP EFFORT - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 4/1/96

1995-96 CROWN VICTORIA
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1995-96 GRAND MARQUIS
ISSUE:
Increased effort may be required to roll up the right front window glass on some vehicles. This is due to the passenger door frame being narrow, causing incremental bind on the window glass.
ACTION:
Adjust the right front window glass mechanism and glass run. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the front door trim panel and watershield. Refer to the appropriate year Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Section 01-05.
2. Gain access to the glass and glass regulator attachments by removing:
a. The inside and outside belt line weatherstrip. Refer to the appropriate year Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Section 01-11.
b. The outside mirror. Refer to the appropriate year Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Section 01-09.
c. The door-mounted speaker.
NOTE:
DO NOT REMOVE THE GLASS FROM THE DOOR AFTER COMPLETING STEP 3.
3. Remove the door window glass rivets from the regulator and glass. Refer to the 1996 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Page 01-11-30 (Figure 1).
4. Loosen the two (2) upper power window regulator retaining nuts. DO NOT REMOVE THE BOTTOM RIVETS (Figure 2).
5. Loosen the two (2) screws retaining the front door glass run to door inner sheet metal.
6. Pull the glass up and down in the glass run channels, then align the door window glass with the front door window channel bracket.
NOTE:
FOR PROPER WINDOW GLASS ALIGNMENT, BE SURE TO INSTALL THE WINDOW GLASS AT THE REGULATOR ASSEMBLY-TO-GLASS FORWARD RIVET FIRST.
7. Install the door window glass to the regulator assembly at the forward rivet (closest to A-pillar) location, then the rear rivet location (use 1/4"x0.94 rivet 385323-S100). Refer to the 1996 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Page 01-11-30 for front door window glass installation.
8. Cycle the glass completely to the top and then to the bottom.
9. Torque the upper two (2) regulator retaining nuts to 9-14 N.m (80-124 lb-in). Torque the two (2) door glass run screws to 9-12 N.m (80-106 lb-in).
10. Cycle the door glass to verify repair.
11. Reinstall belt line weatherstrip, outside mirror, watershield and trim panel.
12. Retest the repair.
