Ford Motor Company is providing a no-charge Service Program, Number 96B98, to owners of the following vehicles:
^ 1996 Crown Victoria Police Interceptors built form October 1, 1995 through March 29, 1996
^ 1996 Crown Victorias with Optional Commercial Fleet Packages built from October 1, 1995 through March 29, 1996
^ All other 1995 and 1996 Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, and Town Car Vehicles built from June 15, 1995 through March 29, 1996.

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOUR VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY INSPECTED FOR THIS CONDITION, WE ASK THAT YOU RETURN IT TO YOUR DEALER FOR REINSPECTION PER UPDATED PROCEDURES PROVIDED TO DEALERS FOR THIS PROGRAM.
Reason For This Program
On some of these vehicles, welds that attach certain brackets to the frames may crack. The brackets provide the rear attachments of the front suspension lower control arms to the vehicle frame rails. Ford's investigation shows that cracks in the welds of a bracket develop progressively and result in creaking noises under normal driving conditions and clunking noises and a "pull" during braking prior to full separation of the bracket. If the noises and the braking pull were ignored and a frame bracket were to separate completely from a frame rail, substantially retained.
No Charge Service.
At no charge to you, your dealer will inspect the bracket welds of your vehicle. Welds determined to be cracked or abnormal will be repaired.
Your car is eligible for this program through February 28, 1997, regardless of mileage. (After February 28, 1997, your car may still be eligible for this program if it is within the Basic Vehicle Warranty Period).
How Long Will It Take?
The time needed for this service is generally about one hour. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your car for a longer period.
Call Your Dealer
Ask for a service date for Program Number 96B98.
If inspection reveals that parts need to be ordered, they would be expected to arrive within two days.
When you bring your car in, show the dealer this letter.
If you misplace this letter, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.
Refunds
If you paid to have this service done before the date of this letter, Ford is offering a refund. For the refund, please give your paid original receipt to your Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer. To help avoid delays, please do not send receipts to Ford Motor Company.
Change Address Or Sold The Car?
Please fill out the enclosed prepaid postcard and mail it to us if you have changed your address or sold the car.
