Engine Lubrication

2.5L Lubrication System

The engine lubrication system is a full-flow, force-fed type system, pressurized by an oil pump. The oil is supplied under full pressure through various channels. Oil is pulled up from the oil pan through the oil pump screen cover and tube to the oil pump From the oil pump, the oil is sent through the oil filter, then to the cylinder block, crankshaft, and the camshaft bearing journals. Oil also flows through the piston cooling oil jets and is sprayed onto the underside of the piston to cool the piston. Oil is also circulated through the oil control plugs, cooling and lubricating the upper cylinder heads, camshafts, and hydraulic lash adjusters.
